Synopsis:

Kamal lata (Suchitra Sen) was a ‘boishnobi’(Vishnu worshipper). In the ‘akhra’ of Dwarika Devo (Pahari Sanyall). She lived and worshipped ShriKrishna . Gahar Miyan (Nirmal Kumar) was a poor Muslim singer and also a narrator of the Ramayana. He used to come to the akhra and discuss his writings with Dwarika. Kamal lata and he became good friendsand Gahar fell in love with Kamallata. In the mean time Srikanto (Uttam Kumar) who was Gahar’s childhood friend came to stayed at the akhra. Kamal lata got the responsibility to cook for him. Kamallata fell in love with Srikanto. One day she proposed to Srikanto and told him her story that she was a daughter of a Jamindar . In her childhood, she got married to a person who was also named Srikanto who died and Kamal lata a.k.a Ushangini started to live a widow's life in kolkata. She entered into a relationship with a certain manager and incidentally became pregnant. The manager denied to marry her and Ushangini changed her name to Kamal lata. After that Srikanto left for Kolkata. Kamal lata was blamed for having relation with Gahar and sent away from the akhara. Srikanto came back and come to know everything. He wanted to take Kamal lata with him but Kamallata disagreed and went to Vrindaban.
