Synopsis:
The film is set in 1930's Kolkata. A homeless youth Sitapati comes to landlord Madhav Dutta's house and gets a job as his cameraman. Here through the lenses of Sitapati, we get a glimpse of feudal cultures. Sitapati discovers his former gild friend Mrinmoyee who incidentally is now Madhav Dutta's wife. Now the story revolves around the house, its Andar Mahal, its Baithakhana, its Mehefil. Madhav's polygamy and Mirnmoyee's loneliness prompt her extra maritial relation with Sitapati. Baiji dance and alcholism, love, betrayal, hatred - Sitapati's lens captures it all. Finally Sitapati leaves the house, Mrinmoyee dies, and gradually Madhav gets to know about their relationship. Madhav cannot bear the fact that his wife had commited adultery. He goes to take revenge and shoots Sitapati who is already dead. Finally Madhav becomes mad and shoots himself. A saga based on a the feudal culture of Bengal, this Salil Dutta films reveals the Babu Society, and the hypocracies of the male dominated bengal society.
