Synopsis:
This is the story of a strange wanderlust in a teen-aged boy, Tarapada who often ran away from his home for days to join groups of wandering players, musicians and acrobats.
In his final flight from home he met Moti Babu, a Zaminder, who was returning home by boat with his family from a pilgrimage. The boy requested him for a lift. On the boat Tarapada won the hearts of both Moti Babu and his wife. But Charu, their only daughter, began to envy him. This amused Tarapada who accompanied the family to their native home.
Moti Babu and his wife Annapurna became so much fond of the lovable boy that they took upon themselves the task of his upbringing and education. By now charu had grown a strange feeling of love for the boy who became her mate.
To keep him permanently as their own, Moti Babu and Annapurna planned Tarapada's marriage with Charu. They wrote to the boy's mother about their intention.She was happy that her little bird was caged at last. But this conspiracy of love had succeeded in hemming him in, the unattached, free-souled boy had fled back to the stretched arms of the placid and serenely unconcerned wide open space.
