Synopsis:

An English doctor cured Jahanara’s son. The nawab gifted the doctor the right to set up a business in Bengal, Bihar, Orissa. The East India Company was founded and Job Charnock was sent to Patna to look after the business of Saltpeter. On reaching Patna, Aurangzeb's men seized the company’s goods. Later Charnock released the goods by bribing the rulers. Since then Charnock aimed at winning the emperor's permit for doing business. On the day of holi, the Hindus played holi with Job Charnock. Moti, a prostitute liked Charnock and played holi with him. Later, when Aurangzeb banned the prostitution business, Motia asked Charnock for shelter and they confessed their love for each other. Famine struck Patna and the Hindus were deprived of all rights. Charnock gave some land to the begging Hindu villagers. Moti’s parents committed suicide. Her brother rejected Charnock’s aid and became a dacoit. However, when Motia found her brother had become a dacoit, she persuaded him to join Charnock and from then he became Charnock’s companion. One day, Charnock rescued a woman from committing sati by fighting the brahmins. Then he named the woman Angela and helped her escape to an isolated place where they got married. After that Charnock shifted to a new residence. He was made the officer of Bengal and he left for Kasimbajar. There he faced opposition from Raibalchand who burnt the company’s factory run by Charnock. Marian, a bar dancer who loved Charnock was suspected to be burnt to death. Meanwhile Moti left Charnock as she felt she was not eligible for him.Charnock was made the chief of Bengal. The nawab’s army was sent to imprison Charnock. However, Marian arrived and helped Charnock flee to Hoogly. Later Charnock felt guilty about his escape. The nawab’s men discovered the escape and killed Marian. While entering Hoogly, the Moghals attacked Charnock’s vessel and Charnock succeeded by fighting a war against the Moghals. When Charnock saw Sutanuti, Govindpur and Kolkata, he found them ideal for business. He then conquered the Hoogli fort. Government orders made Charnock leave Sutanuti for Chantga led by Captain Hidge. The captain’s repeated conquests harmed the company’s progress and Charnock condemned his deeds. Meanwhile Moti won nawab Ibrahim Khan’s permit to join Charnock’s business by offering herself to the nawab. Job Charnock unaware of Motia’s sacrifice happily returned to Sutanuti on 24th august, 1690. He received felicitation from the Bengali natives, started his business there and visualised the modern city of kolkata
